The Battles of Rhode Island & Newport

A tactical operational game of the 1778 campaign around Aquidneck Island that recreates American, British and Hessian forces maneuvering on two map halves covering northern positions and a separate Newport scenario. Players command counters representing infantry, leaders and auxiliary units, manage army morale and casualties, and use unique 26-card Opportunity decks per side to trigger modifiers, reinforcements, leader changes and other effects. Momentum and casualty/terrain mechanisms influence additional card draw and play options. Play follows textbook pursuit and retreat along main roads with optional night operations and limited naval bombardment; a second hypothetical scenario models a Franco‑American assault on Newport.
