Players take on the roles of rangers protecting a vast mountain valley in a far-future, science-transformed wilderness. The game runs as a branching narrative campaign of main quests and optional side stories, with each session representing one day of exploration and rest. Characters are represented by customizable decks that reflect background, skills, and equipment; decks grow as the story progresses to add new gear, abilities, and memories. Play proceeds in rounds of turns where a player performs a single action by playing a card or using a card’s table action, triggering thematic outcomes like weather, predators, and environmental hazards. Sessions end when the party completes missions or rests due to fatigue or injury.

How do I perform a test and commit Effort — what can I spend and how is success determined?

Choose the test, commit Effort from energy, approach icons, and other sources, then apply modifiers and compare the total to the challenge threshold to determine success or failure (see pages 16–17).

Can I play cards or use responses on someone else's turn?

Yes — some cards are played as Responses and can be used during another Ranger’s turn when their trigger conditions are met; normal Moments/Attachments/Gear are played on your turn unless they explicitly say otherwise (see page 13).

What happens to Path/location cards and tokens when we Travel or move to a new location — do we clear the play area?

When you Travel you clear the current play area, choose a nearby location, resolve Arrival setup for the new location, and optionally decide to camp before continuing; the travel and arrival steps explain what stays and what is discarded (see pages 14–15).

How does Fatigue work and how do I remove or soothe it?

Fatigue is tracked as a token when caused by tests or card effects, it imposes penalties while present, and it is removed or soothed by specific actions and effects described under the fatigue rules (see page 20).

If I add Progress to a challenge but don't reach the threshold, does the challenge still resolve or trigger effects?

Progress that doesn’t meet a card’s threshold does not complete that challenge yet, though some challenge effects trigger on partial progress or specific conditions — resolve challenge effects and conditional triggers in the order described (see pages 17–18).

When does the day end and what resets when we finish the day or camp?

A day ends according to the end-of-day rules and session goals; when you finish a day or go through the Refresh phase you follow the Phase 4 refresh steps and related end-of-day procedures to reset appropriate resources and advance the campaign (see pages 15 and 21).
