Schachen

A compact chess variant played without a board. Each player begins with a king and four pawns, while cards representing the other chess pieces form a deck. Players draw three cards and, on each turn, move a piece according to standard chess rules, then may place a card beside an existing card before drawing a replacement. Pawns must be placed next to another pawn, while other pieces are placed behind a pawn. The aim is to checkmate the opposing king.
