Strike of the Heron: The Approach to Stalingrad Aug-Sep 1942

The German advance toward Stalingrad in August and September 1942. Players recreate the rapid German breakthrough to the Volga River and the Soviet counterattacks against the narrow corridor near the Don and Stalingrad. German units range from battalions to divisions, while Soviet forces are represented at brigade and division level. Each turn covers 12 hours, with hexes representing approximately one mile. The Soviet player must help forces escape encirclement while maintaining pressure on the extended German panzer forces from both flanks.
