Won by the Sword: Great Campaigns of the Thirty Years War, Vol. 1

This two-player operational game covers the campaigns of the Thirty Years War in Southern Germany, where Swedish, French, Bavarian, and Imperial forces contest control of the region. Scenarios center on major battles or complete campaign seasons from the seventeenth century. Armies maneuver between points on a map based on the period road network. Monthly turns contain a variable number of impulses, with each army playing Campaign Cards to determine its activity, supply use, and special actions. Forces remain concealed off map, creating uncertainty as players maneuver, forage, besiege fortifications, and commit to occasional battles.
