How the Union was Saved: the American Civil War 1861 - 1865

Players control opposing forces during the American Civil War, with one player commanding the Union and the other the Confederacy. Each turn represents three months and requires players to allocate limited Resource Points to build supply depots, maintain armies, enable movement and combat, and construct fortifications. Random modifiers and event cards alter available resources and introduce significant wartime events. Only army commanders are placed on the map, while the strength of their forces remains hidden until combat, allowing bluff, deception, and uncertainty to shape operations.
