Infernal Machine: Dawn of Submarine Warfare

Design and build a mid-19th century submarine, recruit investors and crew, and field the vessel during the American Civil War. Manage a machine shop by buying hull sections and mechanisms, hire Mechanics, Journeymen, Sailors and Investors, and balance funds against fluctuating prices and monthly random events. Assign crew to roles aboard the completed craft, handle malfunctions, and train personnel as missions progress. Plan and execute missions on historical action boards: navigate currents and visibility, attempt covert approaches, and resolve attacks on blockaders or other objectives on a tactical board. Play can follow single historical scenarios or a multi-turn campaign spanning 1861–1865.
