Nusfjord

Players act as owners of rival fishing companies in a nineteenth-century Lofoten village, developing harbor infrastructure, expanding a fleet, and managing the surrounding landscape. Each player places three workers on a shared action board to clear forest, build cutters and buildings, send boats to fish, and interact with village elders. Income is tight and players can sell shares to raise cash, but selling to the market risks giving opponents access to one's catches. The game combines worker placement, resource management, and long-term planning as players balance investment in boats, construction, and satisfying local demands.

In this game players have seven rounds to try to collect as many points as they can. This is done through worker placement, and a little resource management. The whole resource management structure is stood on only three things. Fish, which comes to you each round depending on how many boats you've built. Wood, which comes to you through certain action spots where the output varies depending on how well you've managed your forest tiles, and money which is also raw points at the end of the game. The game gives each player a personal board full of empty spots that will count against you if you don't fill them. It also gives you a water track which you fill with boat tokens to determine how many fish tokens you produce each round. The game is fast, but crunchy. Player interactive, but it has that magical Uwe thing where you still get to be proud of what you built on your little board in front of you at the end. In terms of feel, it sort of takes the tough buildings element of Glass Road, and then adds to it the ability to claim special action spaces for just yourself, and a basic shares system that can allow other players to profit from your income. It's that perfect spot between thinky short and satisfying. I'm amped for lots more of this in the future. I will say I did play with Paul Grogan's suggested variant for the game, which is rather than have players draw their late-game building cards in the fourth round, and then suffer the wrath of the flipluck gods, we drew the cards in the first round, but were only allowed to build them starting in the fourth round. :star: Art, Iconography and components functional :star: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :star: Multiple plays stay interesting :star: Low or mitigatable luck elements :star::star::star::star::nostar: Raw enjoyment

أسئلة القواعد

إجابات من كتيّب القواعد يقدمها مساعد القواعد في Ludoya.

How do I distribute my fishing haul — what order do I place fish and can I use fish from my personal supply?

You must distribute newly caught fish in the exact order on your Elder Council: (1) one on each Elder, (2) one on each of your Shares in foreign possession (Action board first), (3) one on each of your issued Shares in your personal supply, (4) place remaining fish in your Reserve (max 8), and (5) return any excess to the general supply; you may not use fish from your personal supply to fulfill these steps. (See Fishing Phase steps and example, pages 6–7.)

Can I ever have more than 12 wood in my personal supply?

No — your personal supply can hold unlimited fish and gold but at most 12 wood; whenever you receive wood that would exceed 12 you must immediately return the excess to the general supply. (See Personal Supply rules, page 5; Transfer Reserve example, page 10.)

How many workers can go on an action space and can I place a worker if the action would do nothing?

Each action space shows its capacity (1, 2 or 3); you must immediately carry out the action and you may not occupy a space if the action would effectively do nothing for you. You may pass a turn, but you only have three worker turns per round. (See Work Phase and notes, page 8.)

How do Elders and Elder actions work — where do I take the fish from and what happens when an Elder has three fish?

To use an Elder (either by taking one or placing a Worker on him) you must take a fish from the Banquet Table from the largest fish-containing plate and place it on the Elder, then immediately resolve the Elder action; whenever exactly three fish are on an Elder you immediately place one into your personal supply and return the other two to the general supply. You may not use fish from your personal supply or Reserve to pay for Elder activation. (See Take/Use an Elder and Using an Elder, pages 13–14, and Fishing Phase step for 3‑fish rule, page 6.)

What happens to Shares on the Action board and how does "Buy All Shares" work?

When Shares sit on the Action board during the Fishing Phase you must place fish on them in step 2; at the end of the Fishing Phase fish on Shares on the Action board are returned to the general supply while fish on Shares next to Personal Supply move into that supply. The "Buy All Shares" action takes all Shares from the "newly issued shares" space (you must buy all of them) and you pay 1 gold per Share with the total cost reduced by 1 in Rounds 4–5 and by 2 in Rounds 6–7 (cost cannot drop below 0). (See Fishing Phase step 2 and end-of-phase movement, page 6; Issue/Buy All Shares, page 11.)
