Paris Connection

Players build and influence railroad companies by placing wooden locomotives on a map of France and managing a hand of colored engine tokens that represent stock holdings. On a turn, a player either raises a company’s value by adding 1–5 locomotives from the common pool to that company’s network, or trades a locomotive from their personal portfolio for one or two from a company’s pool. Cities on the map increase a company’s value when connected; rural hexes do not. The game ends when a company reaches Marseille or only one company remains in the pool, and final scores multiply each company’s value by the number of locomotives each player holds in that color.

This is a quick filler stockmarket game, where players chose to either put 1-5 wooden trains on the board, or return 1 train from behind their screen to take 2 trains of a different color. At the end of the game, the trains you tucked away are worth whatever the value of that company has gotten to, based on the spaces they were placed on the board. There's some nice push and pull in terms of trying to benefit from other player's actions, and guessing who has what color trains tucked away. The setup is a little annoying for a game of this length, and I'm not sure if I like this better than Steel Driver, but overall, not a bad game. :star: Art, Iconography and components functional :star: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :nostar: Multiple plays stay interesting :star: Low or mitigatable luck elements :star::star::star::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment

I like it enough to keep around, but probably not well enough to learn to play it well.
