Kolin: Frederick's First Defeat – June 18, 1757

In June 1757, Frederick the Great’s Prussian army attacks an Austrian force positioned along a low range of hills. The planned oblique maneuver against the Austrian right flank is countered by Field Marshal von Daun, turning the battle into a costly frontal assault and Frederick’s first defeat of the Seven Years War. Based on the La Bataille system, the game uses period maps, unit counters, and special command and movement rules reflecting the rigid nature of Age of Reason warfare. Players direct infantry, cavalry, and artillery while managing limited trained manpower across historical scenarios.
