Players take the roles of eight eccentric characters in an alternate 19th-century Turin hunting for a hidden supernatural instrument that can stop an impending Ragnarök. One character is secretly the Chosen One who can play the Instrument, and one other is secretly possessed by a hostile spirit trying to stop that outcome. Play proceeds over 11 sequential rounds called Hours, each divided into five phases: reveal an event, bid for turn order, place clues on the map, perform character actions and movement, and play location tiles. Through bidding, deduction, movement and tile placement, players gather clues, compose a Song of Making and attempt to identify and deliver the Chosen One to the Instrument before the clock reaches the twelfth hour.
