The Flames of Fafnir

Players travel through the Heathland with the champion Sigurd, fighting monsters, collecting magical runes, and gathering resources to defend their village from the dragon Fafnir. They build barricades, watchtowers, and trenches to intercept fireballs represented by marbles, which damage heroes and destroy defenses as they roll toward the town. Players use runes and artifacts to weaken or defeat Fafnir, but if all the town’s walls are destroyed, everyone loses. One hero may secretly join the dragon, riding Fafnir and using rider cards to hinder the others while aiding the village’s destruction.

A game that is greater than the sum of its parts, as it gets lifted above the good euro mechanics it is based on by an intelligent balance of decisions between defending the town, amassing victory points and/or switching side. Pretty fast game flow makes for quick, varied games.
