Akropolis

2022 · City Building

Akropolis

Players act as city architects in ancient Greece, placing tiles to develop housing, temples, markets, gardens and barracks across a multi-level cityscape. Tiles are chosen from a shared construction site and arranged in each player’s city to satisfy placement rules, unlock district benefits and create plazas that raise prestige. Stone and quarries function as critical resources that enable building on higher levels; elevating districts increases their value and scoring potential.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Do I have to pay Stones when I take a tile, and how is the cost calculated?

You pay 1 Stone for each tile that precedes the one you take in the Construction Site; taking the first tile is free, and if you have no Stones you must take the first tile. (p.4)

Can I place a tile on a higher level anywhere, or are there placement rules?

A tile on a higher level must rest on three underlying hexes (not above empty space) and those three hexes must come from at least two different tiles — covering three hexes of a single underlying tile is illegal. (p.5)

What happens when I cover Quarries or place Plazas — do they affect scoring immediately?

Covering a Quarry gives you 1 Stone from the reserve immediately for each Quarry hex covered; Plazas multiply end‑game District points (their star values are cumulative) and do not need to border the matching Districts. (p.5)

How do Districts score — do they need Plazas or special placement to count, and does building higher change their value?

Each District must satisfy its type’s placement condition and you must have at least one Plaza of that color in your City for those Districts to score; a District’s value equals its construction height (1 point at level 1, 2 at level 2, etc.). (p.6–7)

When does the game end and is the last tile in the Construction Site played?

The game ends when there is only one tile left in the Construction Site and no more stacks to replenish it; the last City tile in the Construction Site is not played. (p.7, p.4)
