2021 · Card Game
Canvas
Players take on the role of painters assembling layered compositions for an art competition. On a turn, a player either drafts an art card from a row by paying Inspiration tokens or, if holding at least three art cards, arranges three of their cards into a layered painting and scores it. Each art card shows artwork and a set of scoring icons that may be revealed or hidden depending on layer order, creating a spatial puzzle of visible symbols. Scoring uses a changing set of objective cards each game. After each player completes three paintings, scoring totals determine the winner.

Mohasz8.1 This is an odd one. It's obviously beautiful, fun and innovative, but not without hiccups. Firstly, if you try to maximize your score (which you should usually do), it's rather arbitrary whether your painting will make any sense or look any good. That said, it's very rewarding when it does look good and also scores high. Secondly, this game has a bit of a "That's it?" effect. It's really short and simple, all you do is puzzle 3 paintings together, so in a way it can be a little anticlimactic sometimes. Thirdly, there's a quite a lot of luck. You're screwed and forced to create a bad painting if the correct cards are not coming up. Finally, the continuous thinking on the maximization of the scores (depending on the players obv.) can cause some AP issues which can be concerning with such a short game. I like this better now, it’s a really satisfying filler. + Mirrors
Rules questions
Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.
Can I take any Art Card from the display, and how do skips and Inspiration Tokens work?
You may take the card farthest from the deck for free, or skip one or more cards by placing an Inspiration Token on every skipped card; if you take a card that has Inspiration Tokens on it, you take those tokens with the card, then slide the remaining cards and draw a new one (p.4).
What happens if I already have 5 Art Cards in hand—can I still take a card?
You can have a maximum of 5 Art Cards in hand; if you already have 5, you must Complete a Painting as your next action and may not Take an Art Card (p.4).
When I Complete a Painting, how many cards do I use and do covered icons count?
To Complete a Painting you must choose exactly 3 Art Cards and sleeve them with a Background Card; you may layer the three in any order, but only the visible icons count for scoring—covered icons are ignored (p.5).
How do I earn Silver Ribbons and what are they worth?
After comparing your painting’s visible icons to the scoring conditions, take a Silver Ribbon from the supply for each Element that matches a Silver Bonus Icon, and each Silver Ribbon is worth 2 points at scoring (pp.2, 5–6).
Can one painting meet a scoring condition multiple times, and can the same Element be counted more than once?
Some scoring conditions can be met multiple times with a single painting, but as a general rule each Element can only be counted once per scoring condition; you also cannot take more Ribbons than are depicted on the Scoring Card (p.5).
When does the game end and how are ties resolved?
The game ends when all players have completed 3 paintings; once you complete your third painting your turns are skipped, then total ribbon points determine the winner, with ties broken first by who has more Inspiration Tokens and then by a neutral person judging the artwork if still tied (p.6).
