Antike II
Players guide ancient civilizations as they expand cities, found temples, research technologies, and build fleets and legions to explore and contest the map. Turn-based actions include founding cities that produce chosen resources, purchasing military and civilian units, advancing scientific progress, and recruiting historical personalities to gain victory points. Two map scenarios offer different strategic layouts, and combat and conquest follow streamlined rules that balance military expansion with diplomatic and economic planning. The game emphasizes long-term planning and interaction over random chance; the first nation to recruit a set number of renowned figures wins.

Evan5.9 With a roundel action selection mechanism, players conquer territories, produce goods, spend the goods to build more units or temples which produce their production in those regions, and buy techs. This is all in service of claiming achievement cards. When one player has a certain number of the cards depending on player count they win. Everything in this game provides a smooth experience. Turns are quick. Combat is non-random and simple, 1:1 unit kills, plus a few bonus strength on the defense side if certain techs are unlocked or temples are present. Players can walk though each other's areas if both players agree. Techs are few yet important, and are cleanly represented by simply having a player cube on the board. This game has a the feel of other euro civ games boiled down to it's purest essences, while still giving you tough choices, and satisfying outcomes. :star: Art, Iconography and components functional :star: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :nostar: Multiple plays stay interesting :star: Low or mitigatable luck elements :star::star::star::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment
Mitchell C5.9 Really neat reprint of this old classic. The rules tweaks were good, the map was tight. Overall a very enjoyable rondel style game.
