Knarr

2023 · Card Game

Knarr

Lead a band of Vikings to explore new destinations and expand influence across the map. Each turn either recruit and activate crew members—placing a new Viking, triggering all crew with the same icon, and drawing a replacement from the central board—or send the crew to explore chosen territories. Exploration lets players trade at reached destinations, earn resources, and increase reputation; recruitment choices and destination selection combine to shape income and standing over the course of the game.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Can I trade more than once on my turn?

No — trading is allowed only once per turn and may be done either before or after your action; when you trade you spend 1–3 silver bracelets to collect the corresponding asset columns from your destinations and ship (pages 6, 9).

When I recruit, do I have to take the Viking that matches the color on the board?

Yes — you normally take the Viking on the board that matches the color you placed, but you may spend 1 Recruit token to take any one of the five visible Viking cards instead; then a replacement is revealed (page 7).

When I explore, can I use recruits instead of discarding Vikings to pay the cost?

Yes — each Recruit token you spend replaces any one Viking card required by the exploration cost; otherwise you must discard Vikings from your Crew Zone matching the required number and colors (page 8).

Do I get assets from a Destination as soon as I take it, or only when I trade later?

You immediately take the assets shown in the upper-right of a Destination card when you claim it, and separately you can later spend bracelets to collect the column-based assets from your destinations and ship via trading (pages 8, 9).

Is there a limit to how many recruits or silver bracelets I can hold?

Yes — you can never have more than 3 Recruit tokens and 3 Silver Bracelet tokens on your ship; any extras are lost (page 8).

What triggers the end of the game and how are ties resolved?

The game ends when a player reaches 40 or more Victory Points; the current round is finished (ending with the player to the right of the first player) and the highest score wins; ties are broken by who has the most recruits and silver bracelets (page 10).
