Splendor

Players act as Renaissance merchants who collect gem tokens, purchase development cards representing mines, transport, and shops, and seek prestige from wealthy patrons. On a turn a player takes one of three actions: take gem tokens (either three different colors or two of the same), buy a development card by paying gem costs, or reserve a card to hold it for later and gain a gold joker token. Purchased cards provide permanent gem discounts for future buys and some award prestige points. Play continues until a player reaches the target prestige total, at which point the highest-scoring merchant wins.

Se me hace un juego rápido y disfrutable. Con algo de interacción para el tipo de juego y junto a las expansiones me parece que gana mucho en rejugabilidad. De lo contrario, una vez conoces que patrones seguir se vuelve monótono.

Bland theme, feels like a generic game. Still enjoyable to some extent. Got it in a smaller box than usual. Too big a box for the amount of content, space is tight at home!

Juego en el que vas adquiriendo cartas pagando su coste en gemas de diversos colores. Muy sencillo de explicar pero con una buena estrategia detrás.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Can I take two tokens of the same color if there are only 3 left?

No — you may take 2 tokens of the same color only if there are at least 4 tokens of that color available when you take them (Rulebook p.3).

What happens if I end my turn with more than 10 tokens? Do I have to return the new ones?

You must immediately return tokens until you have 10 or fewer; you may return some or all of the tokens you just drew (Rulebook p.3).

Can I reserve more than three development cards or refuse a gold token when reserving?

You may not have more than three reserved cards; reserving is the only way to get a gold joker and if no gold remains you still may reserve but receive no gold (Rulebook p.3).

When do nobles visit, and can I refuse a noble tile?

At the end of your turn you automatically receive any noble for which you meet the bonus requirements, you cannot refuse a noble, and if eligible for multiple nobles you choose which one to take (Rulebook p.3–4).

Do card bonuses count like tokens when buying new cards?

Yes — each bonus from a development card acts as a permanent token of that color and reduces the token cost accordingly; you can purchase cards using bonuses plus tokens and even buy without spending tokens if bonuses cover the cost (Rulebook p.4).

When does the game end and how are ties broken?

When a player reaches 15 prestige points finish the current round so all players have played the same number of turns, the highest prestige wins, and ties are broken by the fewest development cards purchased (Rulebook p.3–4).
