Xiangqi

Xiangqi

Two armies face off across a river on a 9x10 intersection board, each side fielding 16 pieces with distinct movement rules. Players move generals, advisors, chariots, horses, elephants, cannons and soldiers, capturing by landing on opposing pieces; cannons capture only by jumping over an intervening piece. Play centers on protecting the palace-bound general while advancing forces across the river, using chariots for long orthogonal movement, horses for L-shaped approaches, elephants for blocked diagonal defense (they cannot cross the river), and soldiers that gain lateral moves after crossing the river. The game ends when one player captures the opposing general.

Only played a few times, but really enjoyed the feel of this game. Loved the cannon ! This is one I wish I had more time to play in depth.

Very fun - better than regular chess. Although Knightmare chess is the best. (Maybe they can make Knightmare Chinese Chess?)
