Goldland

I giocatori esplorano una regione selvaggia alla ricerca di un tempio perduto, costruendo gradualmente la mappa con tessere pescate casualmente. Ogni giocatore gestisce uno zaino contenente strumenti, provviste, merci da scambiare e tesori; il numero di spazi vuoti determina la velocità di movimento, quindi portare meno oggetti permette di viaggiare più rapidamente. Alcuni luoghi forniscono oggetti se si dispone dell’equipaggiamento richiesto, mentre le tessere avventura richiedono di spendere oggetti specifici per potervi entrare. I segnalini accampamento rendono più facile tornare sulle tessere avventura completate, incoraggiando i giocatori a fare avanti e indietro mentre raccolgono provviste e aprono una strada verso il tempio. Raggiungere per primi il tempio garantisce un bonus maggiore.

Goldland is a Kramer and Kiesling (K&K) game where you get a single pawn, and you walk him around the board as it's revealed completing challenges and collecting treasures. You lay tiles down as you explore and are rewarded points for having completed the most of each type of challenge, and you get some bonuses for getting to the furthest end of the board first. You beat the challenges by discarding the appropriate gear from your backpack, and you have limited space. In fact, the more stuff you carry, the slower you get moving around the board which is an interesting dynamic. Ultimately, this game was too random due to not knowing what to stockpile vs what tiles would be revealed by other players. This style of game is better executed in both The Cave and Lost Valley: The Yukon Goldrush 1896.

The idea sounds good, but I hated being stuck in one spot. Lost Valley does the same thing, but in a much more enjoyable way.
