The Siege of Orgun: Afghanistan, 1983

A strategic valley in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, becomes the site of an assault by 800 Mujahideen against fortified Afghan Army positions, including an airfield and a 19th-century fortress, defended with Soviet support. An area-impulse system models the opposing tactics, with rebel ambushes and harassment attacks facing conventional assaults by Afghan and Soviet forces, including helicopter operations. Cards introduce historical events and battlefield surprises such as Soviet advisers and radio jamming. The game uses a low counter density and few markers.

The Siege of Orgun, es un pequeño juego de la interesante editorial Revolution Games, y el tema es muy curioso, una batalla olvidada de la invasión Soviética en Afganistán durante 1983. El sistema que utiliza el juego es el de la serie Storm, muy utilizado en juegos sencillos, 6 páginas de reglas y áreas en el mapa. Pocos Counters y 18 carta por bando, que representan tácticas y eventos durante la campaña. El juego es muy asimétrico, los Mujaidines cuentan con moral y bastantes tropas, y unas tácticas guerrilleras que bien aplicadas pueden hacer mucho daño, los Afganos gubernamentales y Soviéticos cuentan con tropas bien equipadas, pero las tropas gubernamentales prefieren vivir para luchar otro día. Los soviéticos son más disciplinados, pero solo entran como refuerzos hacia el final del juego, también poseen los peligrosos y devastadores helicópteros Mil-Mi 24. Un interesante juego que se juega en 90 minutos.
