Article 27: The UN Security Council Game

Players represent members of the United Nations Security Council, negotiating and voting on proposals that affect issues such as military affairs and currency. Each round, one player serves as Secretary General, presents a proposal, and leads a negotiation lasting up to five minutes. Players use secret information about how each issue affects them to negotiate for points, payments, and other concessions. When negotiations end, the Council votes. A single opposing vote can defeat the proposal, although vetoing costs points, while successful proposals reward the Secretary General. After each player has served as Secretary General, scores come from retained bribe money, proposal cards, and progress toward secret agendas.

    This is a fun, simple negotiation game. It’s better with more players (5-6) because of the conflicting goals that often arise in that setting. This game is reliant on having the right people in the right mood to really make it shine. It involves a lot of talking and interaction, so if anyone isn’t up for that, you’re better off trying a different game (although this one doesn’t take too long if anyone isn’t enjoying it).
