This reference book collects maps, writings, campaign notes, and other surviving documents from the early years of David Arneson’s Blackmoor campaign, covering 1971 to 1985. It traces the setting’s development from initial referee notes and sketches into an expansive fantasy world with multiple referees and more than one hundred player personas. Reproduced materials include regional and town maps, character records, campaign notices, saga writings, dungeon accounts, newspapers, rumors, and later reflections on Blackmoor’s history and mythology. Commentary by Griffith M. Morgan III provides context for the documents and their place in the development of role-playing games.
