Players compete over a series of rounds to achieve the lowest total score using one or more standard 52‑card decks (often with jokers). Each player is dealt a 2×3 or 2×4 grid of face‑down cards and tries to improve that tableau by drawing from the stock or discard pile and replacing individual cards. Cards score by rank: pip cards count their number, face cards count 10, kings count 0, and matching vertical pairs score 0. Play continues with turn‑by‑turn replacements until a player knocks to end the round, after which others get one final turn. Variants impose different play restrictions and scoring tweaks.
