A historical-fantasy setting on Terra Nova, a western land reached by Vikings centuries before Columbus. European nations settle the continent, where unrestricted Renaissance scholarship produces analytical engines, walking automatons, aeroships, signal lines, and other advanced inventions alongside horse travel, railways, naphtha lamps, and fireplaces. The great powers remain divided by old grudges and petty feuds, while communication and transportation develop unevenly across the frontier. As national tensions rise, Terra Nova stands on the brink of a continent-wide war.
