Ristorante Italia

Players manage Italian restaurants, developing menus, collecting ingredients from town markets, and preparing recipes and wines. Each game lasts four phases of three rounds, with players taking two actions per round to draw cards, buy ingredients, expand the restaurant, gain personal touches, acquire bonuses, or train their cooks. VIP visits, culinary reviews, and a final National Cooking Contest provide additional challenges. Players can focus on restaurant revenue, specialize in recipes paired with distinctive wines, or combine both approaches to earn the most points.

The only mechanism here is luck with card and token flips. There is nearly nothing to do or think about. The game has a lot of rules to mitigate the randomness, like being able to discard the array of faceup tokens and replenish before you buy, and drawing 5 cards and picking one, but despite this, luck of the flip is still the progression barrier. ★ Art, Iconography and components functional ☆ Clever or interesting mechanisms ★ Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players ☆ Multiple plays stay interesting ☆ Low or mitigatable luck elements ☆☆☆☆☆ Raw enjoyment
