2011 · Abstract Strategy
Laser Chess
Two players command mirrored and non-mirrored pieces on a grid and take turns repositioning or rotating them. On a turn a player may move a piece to an adjacent square, rotate it 90°, swap two adjacent pieces if one is a switch, or rotate their laser 90°; after that they fire their laser and follow the beam as it reflects off 45° mirrors. Mirrors deflect the beam 90°, non-mirrored surfaces are destroyed when hit, and a specially protected face on one defender piece can absorb a shot from one direction. The game ends when a king piece is struck by a laser.
