2009 · City Building
Peloponnes
Players lead rival city-states in ancient Greece, developing civilization over eight rounds of auctions. Each round offers Land Tiles and Building Tiles that expand territory, increase population, generate wealth and grant luxury goods. Luxury goods help feed and support inhabitants, while certain tiles provide protection against recurring disasters that can reduce a city's resources or population. Players balance acquisition of land, buildings and people to score points and outpace opponents by the game's end.

Evan4.6 This game has the appearance of a dull bidding and tile placement game, but with a few plays it starts to grow on you. The game plays very quickly even up to 5 or 6 players. You bid on a tile, and if you get outbid you can move your bid (without changing the amount) to another tile your money can legally afford. Then you add the tile you won to your board, and it creates some payouts for you. Fine. The thing that makes this game special are the disasters, which slowly creep up on you and can take down your score a lot if you aren't prepared, and then the way the scoring works where you get the lower score of two categories. There aren't many 6 player games that can play smoothly and quickly like this, and the game works just as well with 2. :nostar: Art and components :star: Innovative mechanics :star: Handles 5 or more players :star: Good with min or max players :star: Low time between turns :nostar: Comfortable complexity :star: Re-playability :star::nostar::nostar: Enjoyment
