1810 · Card Game
Skat
Three players bid to become the soloist who names the trump arrangement and then plays a round of trick-taking to win points. The game uses a shortened 32-card deck and features an initial auction, choice of game type (suit, grand, or null), and a range of modifiers — melds of Jacks, declared margins (schneider, schwarz), hand or open play, and Kontra/Re/… doublings — that affect scoring. If no one bids a solo, a Ramsch variant may be played where the highest trick total loses. Play emphasizes careful bidding, card counting, and tactical play to secure more than half the points in the tricks.
