Players plan and launch air strikes, choose aircraft types and timing, and allocate defenses to protect carriers and objectives. Americans balance defending Midway; Japanese balance capturing Midway or winning the carrier engagement, creating dual strategic objectives that shape planning and risk-taking. Surface ships are abstracted, contributing only as anti-aircraft, bombardment effects, or rare night engagements. The game emphasizes strike coordination, navigation errors, escorts, and timing of attacks.
