Players take the roles of freelance cyberpunk operatives seeking temporary employment in a corporate dystopia. They assemble teams of Edgerunners and undertake covert and open missions involving extraction, bodyguarding, smuggling, demolitions, codebreaking, repossession, and corporate sabotage. The game includes more than ten corporations and dossiers for over two dozen available Edgerunners. Players pursue profitable contracts while navigating rival organizations and operations that are often only remotely legal.
