The Sassoon Files: The Brother of Jesus

Set in 1920s Shanghai, this investigative horror scenario centers on a series of fires, disappearances, and other misfortunes affecting the descendants of those who supported the Qing during the Taiping Rebellion. A journalist’s article links the incidents to an old curse attributed to Hong Xiuquan, the Taiping leader who preached a syncretic religion blending Christianity, Daoism, and the worship of cosmic entities. Players investigate the connection between the recent events and Shanghai’s troubled past, uncovering divided alliances, hidden motives, and supernatural forces. The scenario can be played as a standalone investigation or as part of a larger campaign, and supports both Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition and GUMSHOE systems.
