Retropolis

Strive to develop a prosperous British industrial city during the Industrial Revolution. Build factories and railroads, secure coal to power steam engines, and expand the municipality into a manufacturing hub. Bid for city tiles by choosing how many existing squares to cover with each acquisition. Arrange tiles carefully, as some spaces require resources to operate, others cannot be covered, and end-game scoring rewards the most visible squares of certain types.

Absolutely loving this tough auctions game. You bid for cards, but instead of paying money, you pay in spaces of your existing cards you have to cover with the card you won. Then there's some set collection on top of that and endgame majorities scoring for each of the different colored squares that appear on each card. Could not ask for more from a filler game. Quick play, tight rules, intense decisions and tradeoffs.
