Players take the roles of newly awakened demigods in the ruins of the Former Empires, an ancient civilization that used theurgy to command the powers of creation. Each character embodies several Words of Creation and uses miraculous abilities to protect settlements, reshape the world, and pursue personal causes. The game combines exploration, diplomacy, warfare, and supernatural conflict as the characters gather followers, wield Dominion to alter nations and institutions, and confront rival powers, monsters, and the lingering dangers of High Magic.
