Islebound: Masked Pirate Ship

This variant replaces the standard treasure hunt with a confrontation against a pirate ship. The ship begins in the Ratnest sea region and has a strength based on the number of players. When a player moves into its region, they may roll a die and add the number of pirates and sea serpents they possess to attempt an attack. A successful attack claims all coins, fish, wood, and book tokens on the renown board’s treasure map. The defeated ship moves to an adjacent sea region chosen by the attacking player, then plunders ships there, forcing each affected player to lose two resources where possible. If no treasure remains on the map, a player may collect one coin from the bank instead.
