Players compete to retain the most life points while avoiding snake bites and other hazards revealed during trick-taking rounds. Each hand begins with a secret bid representing how many life points a player is prepared to forgo as insurance; bids offset damage taken during trick play and only excess damage reduces life. Players assess their hands, choose bids, then play tricks using standard trick-taking mechanics with relics and special effects to mitigate damage. Rounds continue until a player reaches zero life; at that point the player with the most remaining life points wins.
