The Late Unpleasantness: Two Campaigns to take Richmond

This Civil War wargame covers two Union attempts to capture Richmond: the Seven Days Battles and Grant’s 1864 Overland Campaign. Each campaign is played separately using point-to-point movement across road networks, rivers, and key terrain. Units represent divisions with hidden strengths, while corps and army leaders influence combat and coordinate attacks. Supply is tracked throughout the campaign, with out-of-supply units suffering movement, combat, and attrition penalties. Movement and combat are integrated, and battles may continue through multiple rounds or end in retreat. Event cards, leader effects, dummy counters, and special rules for the Wilderness and Magruder’s deception add historical uncertainty. Each campaign plays in two to four hours.
