There and Back Again: The Construction of Nostalgia in Advanced Adventures

A scholarly study of nostalgia in tabletop role-playing culture, focusing on the artwork of Expeditious Retreat Press’s Advanced Adventures line. It examines how the series pays homage to the history of role-playing games while contributing to an emerging old-school gaming subculture. The study challenges the view of nostalgia as simple escapism and explores how it can be used to reinterpret the hobby and chart new directions.
