Players lead expeditions to collect amber along hazardous routes, turn by turn forming a sequence of travel days by drawing cards from the route deck. Each drawn card increases the number of actions available that turn and may introduce neutral events or danger cards that trigger penalties and demon pursuits. On a turn, players use actions in their personal action zone to gather amber, craft it into jewels, and take those goods to villages and castles to sell to buyers for gold. The game runs over two rounds: an initial, lower-risk round, then a second round that reshuffles earlier discards into a tougher deck. Demon cards create movement- and wealth-based threats that must be resolved each turn; the player with the most gold at the end of the second round wins.
