Random hazards and encounters are determined at the start of battles, introducing environmental threats such as ash storms, unexploded ordnance, and roaming denizens that can alter tactics and objectives. A simple dice convention system (including D3 conversions, scatter directions, and limited rerolls) adjudicates special effects and randomness.
