Western Town

Players act as marshals developing small frontier towns in the early 1860s, competing on population, attractiveness, and gold. Each player builds on a personal town board, placing buildings that grant evolving abilities and resources while managing growth and limited choices each round. Every round highlights six bonus buildings from a pool of twenty-two, forcing players to adapt strategies and exploit new combinations. Presidential visits periodically score towns according to shifting criteria, and occasional events—including raids and social tactics—affect planning and interaction.

Evan3,5 Decent game. The rulebook is bad at explaining the rules, and the iconography takes some getting used to, but once we got going, we were having a good time. In this game, you get five rounds to build your town and then you score based on how much the accumulated Lincon cards like what you've done, plus your building points. In our game, I had trouble knowing what to focus on, as there is a card play element similar to Glass Road, where other players can get benefits from your stuff if they predict correctly what you are going to play. You are also at risk when you take certain actions of being attacked by Native Americans, (who yes, as sadly represented as colored red and orange meeples). ☆ Art and components ★ Innovative mechanics ☆ Handles 5 or more players ☆ Good with min or max players ★ Low time between turns ★ Comfortable complexity ★ Re-playability ★☆☆ Enjoyment
