Ada's Dream

Players collaborate with Ada Lovelace in an alternate-history race to assemble the first computational machine over 18 turns. On each turn, players take dice from a Workshop Rondel, move across a map of the UK to give lectures and visit institutions, and accept Assignments from Ada to earn Prestige. Dice, Gears, and Programs are placed on a personal blueprint board to build an Analytical Engine; dice rondel selection and manipulation determine available actions and engine components. When any player completes an engine, scoring occurs and the highest Prestige total wins.

Un dels eurogames més interessants de l'any passat, molt bona feina del Toni López.

Pytania o zasady

Odpowiedzi z instrukcji od asystenta zasad Ludoya.

Can I use a grey die to take any main action?

Yes — grey dice may be used to select any one main action of your choice when taking an Actions turn (see page 10).

If an action lets me place a disc but I have no discs left, can I move a disc already on the main board?

Yes — if an action allows you to place a disc and you have no discs remaining you may move one of your discs already on the main board to the new space, except you may not move a disc that is part of meeting an Objective (see page 10).

Do Program tiles give their reward immediately, and do Gear tiles or discs affect whether a Program scores?

When you select a Program tile you immediately gain the reward shown on the tile's space, and for end-game scoring a Program only checks the dice in that line — Gear tiles or discs present do not change whether a Program scores (see pages 11–12).

If I spend a Book to take a Publish action and place a disc on the main board, do I also get the space's reward?

No — when you spend a Book to place a disc via a Publish action you do not gain the rewards shown on that space, though the Ada’s Study Publish lets you perform the area's first-level advanced action regardless of Research level; each Publish type has its own specific effect (see pages 17–18).

When does the game end, and how does Steam Power affect scoring of lines?

The game ends when a player places their 9th die into the Mill and then all players finish the round; during final scoring each completed line's calculated value cannot exceed your Steam Power level (see pages 20 and 17).

What counts as a completed line for final scoring and how do I calculate it?

A completed line must contain 3 dice and 2 Gear tiles; calculate the line's value left-to-right or top-to-bottom applying each Gear's operation in order, then apply the Steam Power cap to that final value (see pages 19–20).
