Arena: The Contest

Set in an empire where open war is outlawed, champions resolve conflicts inside a sanctioned arena representing their nations. Players assemble teams of three or four specialists—Tacticians, Healers, Bruisers and more—and engage in turn-based tactical skirmishes where each hero gets a Move and an Attack action per turn. The game emphasizes team synergy, counterpicks and varied combos, with modular advanced options such as Artifacts and Scrolls to deepen strategy. Competitive play pits two teams against each other on customizable battlefields with terrain elements; cooperative play runs linked missions and a campaign where heroes gain experience, level up, and acquire items while tackling scenarios and boss fights.

    The pvp mode was ok, but I'll much rather play Mythic Battles: Pantheon, Summoner Wars, Cthulhu Wars, Batman: Gotham City Chronicles, Infinity, Age of Sigmar +++ The campaign play was boring and felt very tasteless and empty. Much rather play Sword & Sorcery, Middara, Gloomhaven, Mansions of Madness 2, Arkham Horror 2 +++ Good rulebook though. Everything is based on D20 rolls like D&D, but without any interestning actions or interactions with the environment. I had the all-on pledge with all the heroes, flasks etc. and most heroes felt kinda samey. All bruisers have the bruiser talent + their own 4 "unique" skills, but thats it. Those "unique" skills feels like simple derivatives of other heroes "unique" skills. It's a good introduction game I guess, but even then it wont hold for long I'm afraid. I think even my Zombicide Invader box will get played more.
