History of the World

Players guide successive empires across seven epochs, from ancient city-states to pre–World War I powers, placing units, building forts and monuments, and sending ships into seas to expand territory. Each turn a player activates a new empire: place a capital and move units into adjacent lands or across seas, resolve combat with dice where terrain and fortifications affect defense, and optionally play Event cards that modify actions or naval presence. After an epoch ends, areas are scored for presence, dominance, and control, plus points for capitals, cities and monuments; hidden pre-eminence bonuses are awarded and revealed at game end to determine the highest total.
