Circle of Fire: The Siege of Cholm, 1942

This simulation covers the first ten days of the 1942 siege of Cholm on the Eastern Front. Soviet forces attack with greater numbers, artillery, and armor, while German forces defend the town and road hub using fortified positions, high ground, and air support. An area-impulse system governs movement and combat, with a sudden-death mechanism that can end turns unpredictably. Players maneuver units, commit attacks, and manage the competing advantages of each side across a map based on aerial photographs and situational maps. The rules are low-complexity and the game is designed for quick setup and play.
