Players act as officials of a decaying imperial regime who compete for power across a dark, satirical space opera setting. Gameplay uses a compact deck of four suits and ranked cards for action selection: cards are played in a trick-taking, adjacent system to determine initiatives, choose actions, and declare three scoring Ambitions each deal. Players manage hand limitations and exploit timing and opponents’ plays to mitigate weak hands. Conflict resolves quickly: attackers pick a risk level while defenders marshal ships and tableau cards. Components include numerous wooden ship and agent pieces, custom dice, a multi-panel board, and extensive card art; optional Leader and Lore cards add asymmetric depth and campaign play.

Original, Condensed and frustrating 2.5X with lots of interaction. Best at 3p, enjoyable at 2p, hectic but fun at 4p. While Leaders and Lore are an essential part of replay ability , I would be wary to add them to a 4p game where someone is playing their first or second game. Same with campaign. It needs at least a couple of plays of all players to start rolling properly. Overall it's a multi-configuration game, where 2p plays totally different than 4p, where adding L&L will mess plans you decided with base game and where after you learned everything, you can apply over it the "real" epic game that will make you learn an entirely new strategy. But the game is great even if you stick to base.

Въпроси за правилата

Отговори от книжката с правила от помощника за правила на Ludoya.

When I play a card, can I take any actions I want?

Your card’s suit limits which actions you can take, and each action pip lets you take one action; you may leave pips unused. When you don’t have the initiative, Copy and Pivot each allow only one action, while a successful Surpass lets you take actions up to the pips on your card (p. 8, 10).

If I declare an ambition, do I lose an action pip?

No. Declaring an ambition covers your card number with the zero marker, but you still get all its action pips. You may declare only before taking actions, and only if you have the initiative (p. 9).

How does control work, and what happens if ships are tied?

You control a system if you have more fresh ships there than each rival; if there’s a tie, nobody controls it. Damaged ships don’t count as fresh for control (p. 7).

Can my ships keep moving after leaving a starport?

Yes. A move from a Loyal starport can become a Catapult move, letting your ships continue through systems; they must stop when they enter a planet or gate controlled by someone else. Check control before moving into that system (p. 13).

Do battle hits destroy a piece right away?

A hit damages a fresh piece; a hit on an already damaged piece destroys it. The attacker takes destroyed defending pieces as trophies, while the defender takes destroyed attacking ships as trophies (p. 14).
