Dwellings of Eldervale

Players control rival factions vying to claim influence across a reclaimed magical realm. On each turn they place uniquely powered workers or regroup and activate their tableau to adventure, cast spells, recruit units and develop long-term engines. Actions take place on a shared board with distinct areas—summoning portals, ruins, dungeons, a mage tower and elemental regions tied to Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Light, Dark, Order and Chaos—plus card-driven quests, prophecies and magic effects. Area control, worker placement and engine building interact as players fight monsters, capture territory and pursue multiple paths to score elemental dominance.

Great game, worker placement with a few twists to make it more interactive and fun, my only gripe is that the combat feels a little bit underwhelming, I guess I could find some house rules to make it better though.

This game puts many diffrent mechanics together. It has some flaws escpecially the combat system. Would always recommend Andromedas Edge over Dwellings.

Regelspørgsmål

Besvaret ud fra regelbogen af Ludoyas regelassistent.

Can I place my first Unit anywhere, even on a tile with a Dwelling or Monster?

Your First Placement may be in any unoccupied Realm — that is, a Realm containing no Units and no Monsters; Dwellings do not count as occupying a Realm (p.9).

If I already have Units on the map, where may I place additional Units?

Subsequent Units must be placed in a Realm adjacent to a Realm occupied by one of your Units and not into a Realm that already contains one of your Units; you may place into a Realm with opponents’ Units or a Monster, but doing so will trigger battle (p.9).

If I place into an occupied Realm, does the battle happen before I take the Realm action?

No — battle always occurs after you take your Action in that Realm: you place your Unit, resolve the Realm’s action, and only then the battle is triggered and resolved (p.14).

How do I calculate battle dice and what does spending Swords do?

Each player adds the battle dice values of their Units in the Realm, gains +1 die for a Dwelling in the battle Realm and +1 for each Dwelling adjacent to it, then players (in turn order) may spend Swords to add one die per Sword up to a maximum of 6 dice; highest-die comparisons determine the winner (pp.14–15).

What happens to Units that lose a battle — do I lose Dwellings and what is the Underworld?

Losing players move all their Units from the battle into the Underworld while Dwellings are never removed; each Unit sent to the Underworld grants its owner 1 Sword, and Units return from the Underworld when that player Regroups (p.15).

When does the game end and do players get a final turn after the end is triggered?

The game ends when a player builds their 6th Dwelling or when the last Realm is drawn, and after the end is triggered every player (including the triggerer) takes one more turn — so be sure to use Orbs and Free Actions on your final turn (p.19).
