Players portray noble families in 15th-century France, competing for power through land, titles, marriage, and church influence. Families place and move Lords and troops across a map of villages grouped into Fiefs and Bishoprics, fight battles with dice, levy taxes, build mills and fortifications, and buy or gain Royal and Ecclesiastical titles. Clerical careers can produce Bishops, Cardinals and even the Pope; secular control of Fiefs yields Barons, Earls or Dukes and votes in royal elections. Diplomacy and marriage create alliances that share victory, while random event cards and military risk can abruptly change fortunes.
