Players take the roles of aspiring scientists in the Scientific Revolution, traveling across Europe to visit cities and universities, study, build instruments, discover theories and earn income. The game runs over six rounds; each round players play five cards from hand to activate actions on the board. Actions vary by location and board symbols, and one card must remain on the board at round end—boosting that action but foregoing the card for future use. Players acquire new cards to expand their options and score points through discoveries, research, and development. Final scoring after six rounds determines the winner.

No, no, no. Just no. Multiplayer-Solitaire garbage at its best. The only thing that prevents you from playing simultaneously is the buying card part and who gets the little boni first. Very boring and dry euro game. Players start with mostly symmetrical decks of action cards. When a card is played it goes into your tableau, and activates it's ability equal to the number of matching action icons you have across your board. As you play more cards over the round your actions build in effectiveness. At the end of the round you tuck 1 card you used to further boost you in future rounds, and there are special spaces that give you bonus icon tokens. The game has many different paths that give it a little bit of a Feldian point salad feel. The game taunts you with special endgame scoring conditions at the end of all it's various tracks if you have the right color book icons showing when you happen to take the action to bump to the end of that track, but ultimately most points seem to come from building up your point income using the book action. This feels a little disappointing, that what appears to be a wide range of options comes in service of something so specific. The components and icon clarity could use substantial improvement. The color pallet of the game is very brown/tan and the rewards on many bonus icons are hard to see even from sitting relatively close to them on the board. That being said, there's plenty of delicious tension to the game as to when to buy new cards from the display, when to improve your engine vs when to flog it. It takes a few plays to get used to the flow of this game and I'm sure I haven't cracked the surface of being good at it. :nostar: Art, Iconography and components functional :star: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :star: Multiple plays stay interesting :star: Low or mitigatable luck elements :star::star::nostar::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment
