Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear – Operation Barbarossa 1941 (Third Edition)

A squad-level combined arms tactical wargame set on the Eastern Front during Operation Barbarossa. Players command German or Soviet forces made up of infantry squads, crewed support weapons, tanks, armored cars, artillery and other battlefield elements, each modeled with historically based strengths and weaknesses. Gameplay focuses on choosing one unit at a time to take actions and managing the risk that a unit becomes spent after an action by rolling a custom d10 against the action’s cost. Units undertake movement, firing, support and special actions, while stress and coordination mechanics encourage integrated tactics and introduce fog-of-war decisions. The system uses simplified target numbers to resolve combat so commanders concentrate on timing, maneuver and combined-arms coordination rather than bookkeeping.
