Tactical combat on the East Front during the opening months of Operation Barbarossa, with German and Soviet infantry, artillery, and armoured units. Players secretly assign Command Points to plan activations, manage limited actions, and resolve engagements across modular scenarios. Fortifications, obstacles, minefields, tactical air support, and off-board artillery add battlefield challenges. A linked campaign follows four battles for river crossings, with outcomes shaping later scenarios and branching into eight possible storylines.
